Today, I’ve decided to answer a few questions that I’ve received since I’ve started sharing my journey to 13.1. For me, this is super fun because I love to share what has worked (or not worked) for me and what I’ve loved so far/what I think has helped me with my miles.
QUESTION 1: RUNNING SHOES
When I was running the random three to four miles 2-3 days a week, I didn’t really care which running shoe I had. I was running in my Nike Run Swift sneakers and they worked especially for shorter runs. Since I wasn’t working towards a specific goal, other than getting a little sweat in, my sneakers didn’t really matter to me. However, after sooo soo much research and googling every store in the world to get the best price- I ended up buying a pair of the Adidas Ultra Boost 19 tennis shoes and they are AMAZING!! I couldn’t be any happier with my purchase, they’re worth every penny and I swear they have helped my time.
QUESTION 2: HYDRATION
So, I haven’t felt like I’ve run a long enough duration to feel like I need to be hydrating while running. I think by mile 8, I’ll be at that point though and I haven’t really decided what to do yet?! EEK! I know there will be fueling stations for when I run the actual half, but for training, I’m thinking of carrying a little 8-ounce bottle for water. I’d ideally like to drink at least 1 hour in and every 30 minutes after that. So, if anyone has a suggestion, I’d love to hear it!
QUESTION 3: WHAT I EAT DURING A LONG RUN
Again, I haven’t had a problem with this yet but I know (per every article I’ve read) it’s suggested that you refuel with calories/carbs every 45-60 minutes. I bought some energy gels, (I’ll link below with everything else) that I’m pretty excited to try. And I’m thinking if those don’t work for me I’m going to try a little bar.
QUESTION 4: FAVORITE LEGGINGS TO RUN IN
Zella, hands down, they are my favorite. Probably because the ones I have (currently on sale 🙌🏼) are a thicker material and it’s pretty chilly out most days that I run. But they don’t slide down and I feel very much held in and supported, if that makes sense! I like where they hit me in the torso and legs, and overall, I just love them!! Plus, they have side pockets! I also like my Lululemon leggings, but they’re so darn pricey. I think they have the same feel as the Zella leggings and the Zella leggings are such a better deal!
QUESTION 5: HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED
I’m a pretty determined/stubborn person (I set my mind to something, I have to do it); especially with a workout- simply put, it makes me feel 1000x better and I really enjoy it (I didn’t always feel this way, promise). I love the feeling I get after a workout, it always puts me in a better mood, I feel re-energized/clear minded, I strongly believe it helps to keep up with my kiddos, and all of these things motivate me to keep going. Also, it helps that I have a super supportive husband who gives me times to beat and he keeps me encouraged to keep it up!
QUESTION 6: WHAT I EAT IN A DAY
I feel like that emoji that has a blank stare 👉🏼 😳, haha!! I think this is a blog post in and of itself. Let’s just say, every day looks different especially depending on how many miles I have and that is what works for me. When I’m not training, I pretty stick to the same ole things, I’m a creature of habit and can eat the same thing over and over again- maybe that’s where my Griffy gets it because kid sticks to a chicken nugget diet 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️. I do, loosely track my macros Monday-Friday, which I personally enjoy (health and fitness is genuinely something I enjoy!) and counting macros is like a puzzle and the pieces don’t always fit for me, which is totally fine. I do whatever I want, within reason Saturday and Sunday. Eating a healthy diet has been something I have loved for years now, I enjoy what I eat and if I want to eat something not ‘healthy’ I most certainly will. But, this is definitely a fun question that I will work on!
